Garden Route Botanical Garden

The Garden Route Botanical Garden is a beautiful natural sanctuary located on Caledon Street in George at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains. Established in 1998, the garden focuses on conserving and showcasing the rich plant diversity of the Southern Cape region.

Spanning approximately 16–19 hectares, the garden features a variety of natural habitats including fynbos, forest, and wetland ecosystems, supporting a wide range of indigenous plant species and wildlife. Visitors can explore well-maintained walking paths, scenic viewpoints, and tranquil picnic areas while enjoying the peaceful surroundings and mountain views.

The botanical garden also houses the Southern Cape Herbarium and an indigenous plant nursery, which play an important role in research, conservation, and environmental education. The nursery allows visitors to purchase locally indigenous plants while supporting conservation projects in the region. With its rich biodiversity, birdlife, and relaxing atmosphere, the Garden Route Botanical Garden is a popular destination for nature lovers, hikers, families, and photographers exploring the Garden Route.
