Blaauwberg Nature Reserve, located at Eerste Steen Resort on Otto du Plessis Drive north of Bloubergstrand, is a 1,445 ha protected area safeguarding critically endangered habitats like Cape Flats Sand Fynbos, Swartland Shale Renosterveld, and Dune Strandveld.

This spectacular reserve features 7 km of rugged coastline, boardwalks leading to sandy and rocky beaches, wetlands, and panoramic viewpoints where you can admire both Table Mountain and historic Robben Island—one of the few spots in the world to see two UNESCO World Heritage Sites simultaneously.

Visitors can explore at least two trails: the coastal hiking path (4.4 km) is open daily, while the more challenging “Two Hills Trail” is available on organised group weekends led by Friends of Blaauwberg Conservation Area.

Rich in biodiversity, the reserve supports over 559 plant species, 160 bird species, 50 mammals (including rare white-tailed rat and aardvark), reptiles, amphibians, and interesting historical layers—from 15,000‑year-old shell middens to WWII radar remnants and the 1806 Battle of Blaauwberg site.

Facilities at Eerstesteen include picnic and braai areas beside the beach, restroom amenities, parking, and a visitor and environmental education centre.

Open daily—8:00–19:00 (Nov–Apr) or 8:00–17:00 (May–Oct)—with affordable entry and vehicle fees. Note: no dogs, alcohol, or off-road driving allowed .
