Located in Firgrove, Cape Town, Cheetah Outreach is a nonprofit conservation facility focused on promoting the survival of free-ranging southern African cheetahs while raising public awareness through interactive, hands-on experiences. Founded in 2000 as an NPO, it plays a vital role in education, conservation, and human-wildlife conflict resolution. The centre offers a range of engaging experiences, including:

  • Adult Cheetah Encounters—brief, guided sessions with ambassador cheetahs for a deeper understanding of their lives (not available on Tuesdays)
  • Cheetah Cub Encounters—a chance to meet the younger ambassadors in small, supervised groups
  • Special & VIP Encounters—longer, more immersive interactions focused on conservation education, available by booking
  • Feeding Tours—guided sessions where visitors witness a variety of species being fed, offering insights into natural behaviors

Educational programs extend beyond the centre—initiatives like the Livestock Guarding Dog Program place Anatolian shepherd dogs on farms in predator areas to help minimize conflict in a non-lethal, sustainable way. Since 2005, over 387 dogs have been placed, protecting more than 600,000 hectares. Rated #4 among attractions in Somerset West, Cheetah Outreach is celebrated for its blend of conservation impact and engaging visitor experiences, including cheetah encounters, photo opportunities, and educational exhibits about predator protection.
