Stellenbosch Village Museum

The Stellenbosch Village Museum, established in 1962, offers a captivating journey through the town's colonial past. Located at 18 Ryneveld Street, it comprises four meticulously restored period houses, each representing a distinct era in Cape colonial architecture and lifestyle.

Key Highlights:

• Schreuder House (c.1709): The oldest house in the museum complex, reflecting early Dutch colonial life with its thatched roof, clay floors, and simple furnishings.
• Bletterman House (c.1789): An H-shaped Cape Dutch house built by Hendrik Lodewyk Bletterman, showcasing 18th-century gable architecture and period furnishings.
• Grosvenor House (c.1800–1830): A double-storey home illustrating the transition to more affluent lifestyles, featuring elegant interiors and a grand staircase.
• O.M. Bergh House (c.1850): A Victorian-style house offering insights into mid-19th-century domestic life with its detailed woodwork and period decor.

In addition to the houses, the museum includes the VOC Kruithuis, an 18th-century powder magazine housing military artifacts, and a Toy & Miniature Museum displaying historical toys and miniatures.
