Journey's End Winery & Vineyard, Road, Sir Lowry's Pass, South Africa
Nestled in the southeastern corner of the Stellenbosch Winelands beneath the Schapenberg hills, Journey’s End Vineyards sits in a natural amphitheater offering captivating views toward False Bay and the Hottentots Holland Mountains. Founded by the Gabb family in 1995, the estate spans approximately 40 ha of prime vineyard land atop 350-million-year-old decomposed granite soils—among the most prestigious terroirs in South Africa. Cooling afternoon winds from the Atlantic—known as the “Cape Doctor”—help maintain high natural acidity in the fruit, fostering the creation of refined, age-worthy wines. Winemakers embrace progressive methods like minimal intervention, carbonic maceration, and ageing in amphorae and concrete eggs to add depth and complexity to their wines. Journey’s End offers three distinct tasting experiences by appointment—Precision Series, V-Series, and Tales Range, each showcasing different styles and stories behind the estate’s wines. The estate is also celebrated for its environmental and social initiatives. Since 2014, it has operated on solar power, is WIETA- and Fairtrade-accredited, and earned numerous accolades including Ethical Company of the Year (2020, 2021), WWF Conservation Champion, and awards for social impact and water management. Its philanthropic arm, the Journey’s End Foundation, has delivered millions of meals to the local Helderberg community.
