The Old Biscuit Mill Market, 375 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town, 7915, South Africa

The Old Biscuit Mill (OBM) is located at 373-375 Albert Road, Woodstock, Cape Town (suburb of Woodstock). Originally a biscuit factory built in the early 1900s for the Pyott’s Biscuit Company, the site operated until the mid-20th century. In 2005 redevelopment began, and today the site thrives as a creative, culinary and cultural hub that retains the industrial heritage while reinventing itself for modern use.

What You’ll Find There

  • Markets: The weekly Neighbourgoods Market takes place every Saturday (and Sundays) from about 9 am at the Mill, featuring dozens of artisan food vendors, craft stalls, live music and a lively atmosphere.
  • Food & Dining: From casual café & market-style food to high-end restaurants, OBM is a foodie destination. Examples include gourmet burgers, international cuisines, craft beers and distinctive café experiences.
  • Shopping & Design: A large portion of the space is dedicated to independent boutiques, artisan goods, design studios, interior décor, ceramics, fashion & jewellery — all supporting local creative entrepreneurs.
  • Events & Creative Spaces: Apart from the regular market and shops, the Mill hosts collaborative creative workspaces, gallery-style installations, and event spaces (conference rooms, etc) for various use.

Why It’s Special

  • Industrial heritage meets design: The transformation kept many original factory features (brickwork, silos, metal stairs) while overlaying contemporary architecture and spaces — you’ll feel the character of the past with the energy of the present.
  • Neighbourhood transformation: Located in Woodstock, a suburb that has undergone significant renewal, the Mill serves as a flagship for new creative and cultural activity in Cape Town.
  • Vibrant atmosphere: On weekends (especially Saturdays) it’s full of people, live music, street food, laughter — making it not just a market or shop zone, but a social destination.

Visitor Tips

  • Arrive early on Saturday: Parking is limited and the market gets busy; many recommend arriving early to find good spots and avoid crowds.
  • Transport & Parking: There is parking within the Mill during weekdays, but on Saturdays due to market traffic it’s better to use ride-share (e.g., Uber), public transport or nearby parking lots.
  • Take the time to explore: Apart from the main market, wander through side corridors, up levels, check the art shops, look at the old machinery and enjoy the ambiance.
  • Weekday vs Weekend: Visiting on a weekday will give more relaxed access to shops and cafés; weekend brings full market energy and larger crowds.
