Monkey Town, located off the N2 in Somerset West near Gordon’s Bay, has long been a vibrant attraction offering a mix of wildlife sightings and recreational amenities. Home to over 250 primates from 21 exotic species—including notable chimp sisters Tammy, Ruby, and Sunny—it provided visitors with immersive enclosures, guided tours, and interactive exhibits. Additional fun features included pools with slides, a toddler inflatable area, arcade games, and peaceful braai/picnic gardens. A VIP section offered private pools and garden settings for exclusive events. Important update: After 23 years of service, Monkey Town permanently closed on April 29, 2024. The centre cited growing development and noise pollution in the area as reasons that jeopardized the welfare of its animals. Arrangements have been made to rehome all animals at conservation-approved facilities.
